The Hy Court Sporthorse Collection
showcases horses representing exceptional bloodlines and outstanding
mental readiness.
These horses have received careful structured handling from birth and have been
exposed to varied social environments designed to lay a solid mental,
emotional and physical foundation.
Hy Court lives the importance of how the handling
of the initial learning for the foal sets the stage for his success in
life...to be confident and curious in the world around him...to be eager
to learn...to be trusting. From this place, the horse brings an
openness and willingness to the partnership with the rider.

Foals

We are looking forward to foals
by Royal Hit, Don Alfredo and Rotspon arriving this spring. Upon arrival,
we handle the foals daily being mindful to work with each in a way that suits
their different personalities. We strive to cultivate their curiosity and
confidence. Through thoughtful handling, a positive pattern for learning
is established which sets a foundation for life. At this crucial time, patience and
timing definitely pay off. We pride ourselves on having foals who easily lead, stand to
be groomed and are quiet for the veterinarian and farrier.
Yearlings

After the breed shows
and inspections of their foal year, our youngsters are weaned in the fall. Away from their mothers, they now begin their lives learning the social skills needed for
the future. Our weanlings will stay together for much of the winter and spring.
During this time, they are raised by our older, kind yet firm, geldings who continue their education in building socially appropriate behavior!
During their first year, they
will learn to tie and become more comfortable with routine work such as trailer
loading, standing for the farrier and grooming. We continue to nurture their keen
curiosity which in turn builds confidence in themselves and in the partnership
with the handler.

Wise Judgement

With exceptional movement,
elegance and femininity, Wise Judgment displays the presence and charisma of a
future champion. A full sister to HC Winston, she shares the qualities of her
legendary sire Weltmeyer, the most influential stallion of the Hanoverian breed,
and the impressive Thoroughbred lines of her dam which include Swaps, Native
Dancer and War Admiral.

Two Year Olds
In their two year old year,
our youngsters are very comfortable with routine handling and will spend
longer periods of time being tied and groomed. They will be taking trips on
the trailer to gain more life miles and be exposed to new situations. Once
again, our supportive, hard working role models will be along for the ride!
During this period of
maturing, we often see dramatic changes in their bodies with rapid growth spurts
in the spring. As a part of our overall care and management program, our horses
are periodically examined by our
veterinarians and maintained by our chiropractor to ensure optimum health,
growth and condition.

Three Year Olds

In the summer of their three
year old year, we begin the preparation for starting our youngsters under
saddle. All the foundation work has been set in place from our first
interactions to now. The horses will be saddled and bitted.
They will spend many hours over the next several months wearing saddles and
being ponied from one of our older horses. Being lead from another horse
gives them confidence as they explore the ideas of freely going forward, seeing
a rider from above and experiencing new adventures. We continue to refine
exercises that have been presented earlier, e.g. leading up to be mounted from
the fence, working off a flag, working over and through trail obstacles, leading
by the feet and having a rope on and around their bodies. By November,
they are mentally and physically ready to be backed. We welcome the
support and guidance of renowned horsemen Tom and Trina Curtin in our six day
colt starting session each year.
HC Dulcinea
 |
An

granddaughter of Weltmeyer, Pik Solo and Donnerhall, she shows the

starting her under saddle later this year.

HC Winston
 |
2005 dark bay Oldenburg/Hanoverian colt by Hanoverian stallion Weltmeyer
out of Oldenburg/Hanoverian approved Thoroughbred mare Haughty Marietta. The combination of breeding, type and movement
make this colt an impressive stallion prospect.
Winston's quality and potential is
recognized by others. At his ISR Oldenburg inspection, he received premium foal
status and was Reserve Champion Colt. At the Cosequin Breed Qualifer,
he was Reserve Champion. Winston was 3rd overall at the Cosequin Breed
Championship.
Winston is impeccably mannered and shows
beautifully in hand. He is friendly, personable and very easy to handle.
He has a floating trot and a huge, swinging
elastic walk for which he has received scores of 9's at 8 weeks old!!
We are very excited about this colt's future.

Adult Horses

Once our horses are under
saddle, we spend most of our time working out of the arena. We feel that a
solid foundation can be achieved more effectively when the horses are allowed to
work freely forward in the open. We will continue to build their
confidence with several months of riding out and giving them exposure to new
situations. They will make many trips on the trailer for trail rides,
schooling at horse shows, clinics, etc.
By the fall of their four
year old year, the horses are quite comfortable in a variety of situations and
ready to begin showing.
